Inter Corporate Team League (ICL)

The Inter Corporate League (ICL) is a team-based corporate badminton championship conducted under the Badiwars Corporate Circuit, bringing together professionals from leading organizations to compete for team glory.
Designed exclusively for working professionals, ICL combines the excitement of franchise-style team competition with the structure and professionalism of a BWF-standard tournament. Teams battle across multiple categories including Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Mixed Doubles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and 35+ categories, earning points for both individual performances and overall team success.
As part of Badiwars – India's first BWF standard corporate badminton ranking circuit, ICL offers a unique platform for companies to build team culture, employee engagement and workplace camaraderie through sport.
Format
ICL follows a League + Knockout format. Teams compete in a round-robin league stage where every team plays all other teams in its pool. Teams accumulate ICL Points throughout the league stage, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the knockout rounds. Semi-Finals, Third Place Match and the Final determine the season champions.
Points System and Qualification
-
Overview
Unlike traditional corporate tournaments where teams are ranked only based on matches won or lost, the Inter Corporate League (ICL) uses a dynamic points-based system. Every game contributes towards your team's overall ICL Points tally, which determines the league standings and qualification for the knockout stages.
-
Game Points
Each game is worth a base value of 3 ICL Points. The winner of the game earns all 3 points, while the losing player can still earn valuable points depending on their performance. If the losing player scores between 16 and 19 points, they earn 1 ICL Point. If the game reaches deuce, the losing player earns 2 ICL Points despite losing the match.
Teams can also earn an additional 1 Bonus Point for a dominant victory by restricting their opponent to fewer than 10 points in a game. -
Trump Game
Every team selects a strategic category as its Trump Game. Winning your chosen Trump Game earns an additional 3 ICL Points, while losing your own Trump Game results in a deduction of 3 ICL Points.
For example, if SAP Smashers nominate Men's Doubles as their Trump Game and win that game, they earn their normal game points plus an additional 3 Trump Points. However, if they lose their chosen Trump Game, 3 ICL Points are deducted from their overall match tally. -
Bonus Points - Diversity & Inclusion
Teams can also earn bonus points through squad diversity and participation.
A team receives:
• +1 ICL Point if 3 women players participate in the match
• +2 ICL Points if 4 or more women players participate
Similarly:
• +1 ICL Point if 3 players aged 35+ participate
• +2 ICL Points if 4 or more players aged 35+ participate
An additional +1 ICL Point is awarded if every registered player in the squad gets an opportunity to play during the match.
These bonus points encourage broader participation and strategic squad management rather than relying on a small group of star players. -
How do teams qualify for the knockouts?
Each team plays every other team in its pool during the League Stage. Teams accumulate ICL Points through game wins, trump game bonuses and participation bonuses.
At the end of the League Stage, the Top 2 teams from each pool shall qualify for the Knockout Stage.
Qualification Criteria
Teams shall be ranked based on the following criteria, in the order listed below:
1. Total ICL Points Earned
Teams with the highest number of ICL Points shall be ranked higher.
2. Head-to-Head Result
If two or more teams are tied on ICL Points, the Head-to-Head match between the tied teams shall be considered.
2.a. Points Scored in the Head-to-Head Match
The team that scored more match points in the Head-to-Head fixture shall be ranked higher.
2.b. Games Won in the Head-to-Head Match
If the teams remain tied, the team that won more individual games in the Head-to-Head fixture shall be ranked higher.
3. Total Points Conceded
If teams remain tied after applying the above criteria, the team that has conceded fewer match points across all League Stage matches shall be ranked higher.
The top two ranked teams from each pool shall advance to the Knockouts
